EMPLOYMENT
SUMMER POSITIONS
Chamber Music Coordinator
SALARY
Negotiable; eight weeks. Full time, mid-June - early August.
Room provided if necessary.
JOB SUMMARY
Assist festival faculty in forming chamber music groups and
producing weekly coaching and rehearsal schedules. Oversee the festival's
student recital series and community concert program. Reserve space
at Bowdoin College and at concert venues, research musical issues
(instrumentation, movements, etc.), procure necessary items for
rehearsals and performances (music, extra musicians, instruments),
schedule orchestra rehearsals and festival-wide masterclasses, oversee
cartage, maintenance, and use of pianos. Produce printed concert
programs for all concert series.
EDUCATION/SKILLS
College education, music-related. Must have considerable knowledge
of classical music, especially chamber music repertoire. Must have
strong people, organizational, mediating and problem-solving skills.
Previous supervisory experience helpful. Must be proficient in English.
Must have strong computer skills, and must be able to handle multiple
competing tasks simultaneously.
EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a conservatory, music festival, or related
setting.
CONTACTS
Reports to the Director. Extensive contact with staff, faculty,
and students (ages 12 to 40) from many different cultures. Limited
contact with the general public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires sitting for much of the workday. Must be able
to walk up and down stairs and be able to move about campus quickly
and easily. A valid US driver's license and ability to drive a seven-passenger
van helpful.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most work will be done in the office between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00
p.m. Flexibility required during busy periods, which may entail
working nights, weekends, and holidays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervise temporary summer staff consisting of: music office
coordinator, music office assistant/outreach coordinator(s), stage
manager and stage assistants. Oversee the work of contractors and
technicians necessary to the conduct of rehearsals, classes, and
concerts.
