FACULTY: WINDS
Igor
Begelman:Director, Clarinet; Artist/Clarinet Professor at
North Carolina School of the Arts; Member, Aeolian Chamber Players.
Winner of the 2000 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Begelman has performed
recitals in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Israel and as
a soloist with such orchestras as the Houston, Savannah, and New
Haven Symphonies, the Odense Simfoniker and L'Orchestre de la Suisse
Romande. Has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln
Center and at festivals throughout the world. Has premiered compositions
by such composers as Jennifer Higdon, Ralph Shapey, Meyer Kupferman,
Anton Kuerti, Elliot Schwartz, and Roland Tec. Mr. Begelman is affiliated
with Astral Artistic Services, a Philadelphia nonprofit organization
dedicated to guiding the careers of America's most exceptional musicians.

Artists:
Sue
Heineman: Principal Bassoonist, National Symphony Orchestra;
faculty, University of Maryland School of Music. She has held positions
with the New Haven, Memphis, New Mexico, and New Zealand Symphony
Orchestras. She has appeared as soloist with the NSO, as well as
with the Kennedy Center Chamber Players. Ms. Heineman has
performed as guest Principal Bassoonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic
and is a frequent soloist at conferences of the International Double
Reed Society. A former member of the Aspen Wind Quintet, she has
performed with the American Chamber Players, Chamber Music Society
of Lincoln Center, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Santa Fe Opera,
and Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Heineman holds a Bachelor of Music degree
from Eastman and a Master's degree from Juilliard. She also completed
a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Rochester, and was
the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to Salzburg. Her teachers
include Shirley Curtiss, David Van Hoesen, Milan Turkovic, Judith
LeClair, and Stephen Maxym. Ms. Heineman is a frequent guest
clinician at conservatories and festivals throughout the US and

Joshua
Smith: Head, Flute
Department, Cleveland Institute of Music. Has been principal flute
of The Cleveland Orchestra since 1990. He received an Artist Diploma
from the Curtis Institute of Music. A student of Julius Baker, Jeffrey
Khaner and Frank Bowen, he has been a frequent soloist with The
Cleveland Orchestra, including collaborations with Christoph von
Dohnányi, Esa Pekka Salonen, Mitsuko Uchida, Vladimir Ashkenazy,
Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung and Leonard Slatkin. He is also
chairman of the wind faculty at Kent/Blossom Music. As a coach and
teacher, he has been asked to lead national and international master
classes. He has served on the faculties of the Domaine Forget Summer
Festival in Québec, the National Orchestral Institute in
Maryland, and as a guest artist/coach for the New World Symphony
in Florida. He regularly appears as a chamber musician and recitalist
around the country and abroad, often with pianist Kathryn Brown
as a duo partner. His other recent chamber collaborations include
performances with soprano Lucy Shelton and pianist Pierre-Laurent
Aimard. He was appointed to the CIM faculty in 1990. Dates TBA.
William
Caballero:
Principal Horn,
Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; faculty, Duquesne University. Previously:
Houston Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal,
Hartford Symphony, Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Pops, the
Houston Grand Opera, l'Opera de Montreal, the Opera Company of Boston,
the New England Ragtime Ensemble and was an artist teacher at Carnegie
Mellon and Rice University. Graduate: New England Conservatory,
where he studied with Richard Mackey and Thomas Newell. Has given
master classes throughout North America. Member: the artist board
of the Summit Brass and performs regularly with them. As a chamber
musician, he has collaborated with Joseph Silverstein, André
Previn, and Christoph Eschenbach and appeared at several music festivals.
He also performs regularly with the Sewickley BACHfest and the Pittsburgh
Symphony Brass. Recent performances include the first horn recital
in the 75-year history of the Pittsburgh Y Music Society, a recital
in Boston at the Northeastern Horn Conference, performing live on
NPR with Orli Shaham and Phillip Setzer, and participating in the
Tokyo International Music Festival with the Super World Orchestra.

Liang Wang:
Principal Oboe, NY Philharmonic. In February 2008 he performed Richard
Strauss's Oboe Concerto with the Orchestra in Hong Kong. Previously
he was principal oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Santa
Fe Opera, and San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, and was guest principal
oboe at the Chicago and San Francisco Symphony Orchestras. Born
in Qing Dao, China, he studied at the Beijing Central Conservatory
and at California's Idyllwild Arts Academy. He received his bachelor's
degree from Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music, and was a
fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival and School and
at the Music Academy of the West. He has won awards at the Spotlight
Competition of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Pasadena Instrumental,
Fernard Gillet International Oboe, and Tilden Prize competitions,
and he has twice received the Los Angeles Philharmonic Fellowship.
He has performed chamber music at the Santa Fe and Angel Fire Festivals;
given master classes at the Cincinnati Conservatory; and was on
the oboe faculty of the University of California–Berkeley. Dates
