What
is the Bowdoin International Music Festival?
The Bowdoin International
Music Festival is a six-week chamber music school and concert series
that attracts musicians from around the world each summer.
Is it a program of
Bowdoin College?
No it is not. The Festival
is an independent nonprofit organization. Festival programs take
place on the Bowdoin College campus, and most students eat and live
there.
What is the application
deadline? Can I still apply if the deadline has passed?
The application deadline
for 2008 is January 31st. We will continue to accept applications
after the deadline for studios that are not yet full.
Can I apply online?
Direct online application
is not available. Application forms may be downloaded
off this site; the MSWord file may be filled out and returned as
an email attachment, however, applications are not complete until
all materials are received in the festival office.
How are students selected?
How do I set up an audition?
Students are selected on the basis
of playing ability and repertoire. Auditions are by audio tapes
or CD's. Because our faculty and students reside on five continents,
it is impractical to set up live auditions.

What are the ages of
festival students?
Festival students have
ranged in age from 12 to 42. Typically, 25% of students are age
17 and under; 25% are ages 18-20; and 50% are over 21 years of age.
Students under the age of 13 must live with their parents in rented,
off-campus housing.
Where will I live and
eat when I come to Bowdoin?
Students are housed
on or near the Bowdoin College campus in residence halls and apartments.
Apartments are typically reserved for students aged 21 and over.
Students living in residence halls eat at Bowdoin's award-winning
dining hall. Students in apartments can either cook their own meals
or purchase the meal plan.
