Summer Study

"Bowdoin is one of the great festivals of the world"

Joseph Polisi, President, The Juilliard School

The Bowdoin International Music Festival’s Summer Study program is designed for serious, advanced performers of classical music who are motivated, disciplined, and comfortable with a significant amount of independence. We have a special message for parents of applicants under the age of 16.

We engage faculty members from major conservatories and artists from major orchestras and performing groups worldwide to serve as instructors. Summer study participants work with the instructors in a collegial environment to advance their skills through private lessons, masterclasses, and the practice and performance of chamber music.

Instructors expect participants to make full use of individual practice time, and to make significant progress while at the Festival. Successful participants take advantage of all masterclasses and performance opportunities, and attend all concerts. Each participant’s experience will reflect the energy, drive, and self-discipline s/he brings. Please note: the language of instruction is English.
