Alex Lewis grew up in Seattle, Washington. At a young age, Alex began his studies with cellist Mary Walters before later moving on to study with Rajan Krishnaswami. Alex is graduating in June ’22 from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, where he studies with Horacio Contreras and for a time studied with jazz cellist Matthew Turner. An expressive chamber musician and accomplished soloist, Alex has participated at festivals including the Collaborative Piano Institute, Green Mountain Music Festival, Marrowstone Music Festival, and Center Stage Strings. Alex has worked extensively with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras, Academy Chamber Orchestra, and the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, and has played under the baton of directors such as Stephen Rogers Radcliffe, Nikolas Caoile, Joseph Crnko, and Ludovic Morlot. Alex enjoys playing and listening to jazz music, learning folk tunes, playing free improvisation with his friends, studying ethnomusicology, and teaching private lessons as well as writing and arranging his own music.
