A native of Shenzhen, China, TianYi Li traveled to New York in his early teens to pursue his love of piano. Within six years, he had finished his high school and undergraduate curricula, graduating cum laude from New York University Steinhardt, where he worked with Eduardus Halim, the last pupil of Vladimir Horowitz. Following the completion of his Master of Music studies at the Juilliard School in 2020, he entered the school’s prestigious C.V. Starr Doctoral Program, and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree under the guidance of Jerome Lowenthal. TianYi is the recipient of the third prize and three special prizes at the 2017 Tbilisi International Piano Competition. Recent highlights include the complete Rachmaninoff Étude-Tableaux at the 2023 Shanghai International Piano Festival & Institute, a Signature Series recital at the Oracle Piano Society in Arizona, and a graduation recital at Juilliard’s Paul Hall, presenting Beethoven’s 5th Piano Concerto with a string quintet. As a chamber musician, he has performed and premiered new music with New Juilliard Ensemble and AXIOM in Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater, and as a resident artist at the Suncoast Composer Fellowship Program in Sarasota. A devote pedagogue, TianYi is a Sight-Reading and Secondary Piano teaching fellow at Juilliard, where he works with undergraduate and graduate students to hone their keyboard skills. He resides in Princeton, New Jersey with his family.
