2023 Guest Artist

A classically trained percussionist on a non-traditional path, Katalin La Favre throws her creative energy into concocting innovative captivating experiences. Interested in interdisciplinary and experimental work, she was drawn to France and awarded a Fulbright Grant to study with percussionist Jean Geoffroy in 2012.
Katalin remained in France for 9 years, working in collaboration with actors, dancers, and musicians from other aesthetics for several inventive programs which have been performed in France, Germany, Scotland and Portugal and at festivals such as the Avignon Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Imaginarius Festival where her group won 3rd prize in the OFF competition. These programs have been vastly diverse, ranging from L’ombre des vagues (a program inspired by Virginia Woolf, combining contemporary music, contemporary dance, and poetry) to Zeee Match (a humoristic street theatre and music performance).  Recently relocated to the United States in late 2021, Katalin has continued performing unique programs throughout Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois. Since her return she has developed several programs, including BACH’S MUSIC BOX,reimagining J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations for unique metallic percussion instrumentsas well as promoting wellness through the arts with her “sound nap” programs.
