A highly prolific pianist from Shandong, China, Shuguang Gong has performed extensively in China, the U.S., and Europe, at venues such as the National Center for the Performing Arts in China, Beijing Concert Hall, Yichang Theater, Gusman Hall at the Frost School of Music, and Neidorff-Karpati Hall at the Manhattan School of Music. Gong collaborated with artists from Yale and Juilliard in a recent performance of Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphonie conducted by Alison Norris at the Manhattan School of Music, which showcased his technique and musicianship. In June 2024, he gave four chamber recitals at the newly founded Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival. Additionally, he performed as one of the soloists at the 2024 Frost Chopin Academy.

Gong has won numerous prestigious competitions. In 2021, he won the Mead Witter School of Music Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition and performed Chopin’s Concerto in F minor with the MWSO. He also won the Irving Shain Beethoven Competition and the Irving Shain Woodwind and Piano Duo Competition. In China, he has won several major national piano competitions, including first prize at the 17th Xinghai Cup, held by the Central Conservatory of China (often called “the Cradle of Chinese Pianists”), and first prize at the 2017 Chinese Junior Golden Bell National Piano Competition, organized by the Chinese Musicians Association.

Gong holds a B.A. from Beijing Normal University and an M.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was awarded a full scholarship. He also participated in exchange programs at the New England Conservatory, Boston University, and the Birmingham School of Music. Currently, he is pursuing a DMA in Piano Performance at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. As a full scholarship recipient, he is also a teaching assistant with the Frost Opera Theater. His private teachers include renowned pianists Kevin Kenner, Christopher Taylor, and eminent Chinese pedagogue Lanlan Guo.
