Cheyoon Lee is a cellist from South Korea, active as both a soloist and chamber musician. Based in New York for many years, she developed her musical training and artistic identity in a diverse and stimulating environment.
She began her early studies in Korea with Jeong-joo Choi before continuing her formal training at The Juilliard School Pre-College, where she studied with Clara Minhye Kim, a mentor who has played an important role in her musical development. She earned her B.M. from the New England Conservatory of Music under the guidance of Laurence Lesser, and her M.M. from The Juilliard School.
Cheyoon has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, and Blackmore Music Academy in Berlin. She has received numerous honors, including winner of The Juilliard School Honors Chamber Music Audition, 1st Prize at the YWCA New York Music Competition, and 2nd Prize in the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition. She was also awarded the Tan Grant Family Award scholarship. Her chamber music experience includes appearances in the Kumho Young Chamber Concert and collaborations with various musicians and ensembles.
She has participated in festivals such as Kneisel Hall, Meadowmount, and the PyeongChang Music Festival, where she worked with artists including Frans Helmerson, Ralph Kirshbaum, and David Geringas.
She will begin her DMA studies at the USC Thornton School of Music, where she will study with Ralph Kirshbaum.
