Zhengnan Eric Wang is a 25-year-old Chinese violinist currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music, where he studies with Daniel Ching.
He received his Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he studied with Kathleen Winkler. During his time at Rice, he served as principal and concertmaster of the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with the Shepherd Chamber Orchestra in a performance of Delight and Dances by Michael Abels as the first violinist of the quartet. He previously earned his Bachelor of Music degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Oleh Krysa. Eric also has taken masterclasses with Augustin Hadelich, Gil Shaham, Eszter Haffner, Jerusalem Quartet, Schumann Quartet, and Quatuor Ébène.
Eric is deeply passionate about chamber music, a commitment that has led him to festivals including Kneisel Hall and the Centrum Chamber Music Festival. There, he studied with members of the Juilliard Quartet and Dover Quartet, as well as Laurie Smukler and Dmitry Kouzov. His chamber music mentors have also included members of the Ying Quartet, James Dunham, Desmond Hoebig, and Norman Fischer.
