Yarn/Wire is a New York City–based percussion and piano quartet (percussionists Russell Greenberg and Dustin Donahue, pianists Laura Barger and Julia Den Boer) that creates visceral, adventurous new music at the intersection of concert tradition and sonic experimentation. Since forming in 2005, the ensemble has become a fixture at the world’s preeminent concert halls and music festivals, performing at Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Big Ears Festival, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Luxembourg’s Rainy Days, Wien Moderne, and New York’s TIME:SPANS. Through more than 200 commissions, Yarn/Wire has championed composers including Annea Lockwood, Enno Poppe, Michael Gordon, George Lewis, Sufjan Stevens, Sarah Hennies, Tyshawn Sorey, Peter Evans, Craig Taborn, Tyondai Braxton, and Kate Soper.

The ensemble’s commissioning series, Yarn/Wire Currents, serves as an incubator for experimentation. It focuses on a diverse range of American and international musicians, artists and composers explore intersections of composition, technology, installation, improvisation, live performance, music theater and more, in an effort to expand the ensemble’s performance practice and reflect music’s fluidity and reach. Premieres are released on the ensemble’s own imprint via bandcamp, and viewable on youtube.
