2026 Fellow

Born in Hong Kong, Anson Chan is currently completing a Performance Diploma at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he also earned his Master of Music in 2025. Studying under the tutelage of Chi Ho Han, he is set to begin his Doctor of Music there in the Fall of 2026.

Anson’s playing has earned him recognition in several international circles. He was recently named a 2026 Bowdoin Fellow and has taken top prizes at the Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition and the North American Virtuoso International Music Competition. His competitive success also extends to the Japan Piara Hamamatsu Piano Competition and the National Society of Arts and Letter Competition in Indiana.

Interested in the nuances of historical performance, Anson has expanded his stylistic horizons through studies at the Academy of Fortepiano Performance in New York and the Chamber Music Collective in Pennsylvania, and will pursue a minor in historical keyboard. His musical growth has been shaped by masterclasses with distinguished artists such as Jerome Lowenthal, Yong Hi Moon, Roberto Plano, and Gabriel Kwok.

Outside of the practice room, Anson is deeply engaged in the academic side of his craft. He serves as an Associate Instructor in Music Theory at Indiana University, teaching undergraduate courses, and his academic record was recognized with the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme which supports his graduate studies. He enjoys cooking and reading in his free time.
