A native of South Korea, pianist Jieun Jeong began playing the piano at the age of four. She studied at Busan Arts Middle School and Seoul Arts High School, and received her B.M., magna cum laude, from Chung-Ang University in South Korea. She then moved to the U.S. to pursue her first Master’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. Additionally, she earned a second Master’s degree in Collaborative Piano with a teaching assistantship at Baylor University. She is currently a second-year doctoral student at Arizona State University, where she also works as a teaching assistant.
Ms. Jeong has participated in several international festivals and has performed in the United States, South Korea, and Europe. She has attended numerous masterclasses given by internationally renowned musicians, including Choong-Mo Kang, Duffek Mihaly, Graham, Vasilli Sherbakov, Simone Dinnerstein, Connie Shih, and Vyacheslav Gryaznov.
An avid chamber musician, she recently performed in a flute, clarinet, and piano trio at the “She: Festival of Women in Music,” and her other trio, the Lilly Trio, will be performing at the International Double Reed Society (IDRS) conference in June. As a passionate opera pianist, Jieun has been involved in various opera productions. Most recently, she performed harpsichord and chamber organ for ASU’s Music Theatre and Opera production of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, conducted by Brian DeMaris. She also participated in the Miami Music Festival as a pianist for Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking.
Her mentors and teachers include Andrew Campbell, Miki Aoki, Kae Hosoda-Ayer, Gregory Allen, Kathleen Kelly, Hyekyung Lee, and Saekyung Park.
