Clarinetist Taig Egan lives and studies music in New York City. He has held position of principal clarinet in Symphony in C since 2024, and was a founding member of Westside Chamber Players, a self-run chamber orchestra that gives free performances in the New York and New Jersey area. Taig has also worked as a community engagement teaching fellow at The Juilliard School.
Particularly memorable musical experiences include two summers at the Tanglewood Music Festival and a concerto performance of Weber’s ‘Concertino’ at the International Clarinet Association’s 50th Anniversary conference. He has appeared on the WQXR Young Artist Showcase, and performed chamber and orchestral music at the Sarasota and Spoleto music festivals. He is looking forward to a summer at the Bowdoin International Music Festival as one of the clarinet fellows.
Initially on track to be jazz guitarist, Taig was inspired by a colleague’s clarinet solo at summer jazz camp, and decided to move to the reed section. After studying with Sam Boutris, he completed his Bachelors studies with Jon Manasse at Juilliard, and will continue his studies at Curtis in the fall. When not playing the clarinet, Taig can be found listening to the Beatles, eating Indian food, or whistling the hook to the chart topping 1979 hit “Funkytown.”
