The Composition Program gives participants access to distinguished composers, concerts, and masterclasses while affording each participant time to compose in a relaxed environment. The composer-in-residence for 2017 is Derek Bermel. Guest composers will also visit the Festival during each session.

Participants work with Mr. Bermel and guest composers Jennifer Higdon, Andrew Norman, and Andreia Pinto-Correia in both group and individual settings. The program culminates in a performance of at least one work by each participant. The Festival will assist in assembling colleagues from within the Festival to perform a selected work in the Artists of Tomorrow concert series.

Our composition program allows for ample creative time. Participants often write new compositions during the Festival and arrange to have them performed while here.

Scores and Recordings

Two different, original scores in PDF format labeled with your name, and recordings of each of the scores. MIDI realizations are acceptable. Accepted file types: aac, aiff, m4a, mp3, wav, wma, avi, m4v, mov, mp4, mpeg, mpg, vob, wmv, mkv.

Resident Assistant

If you would like to be considered for a resident assistant (RA) position, you must submit a cover letter and resume demonstrating related leadership experience.

Letter of Recommendation

From your current teacher. You will need your teacher’s email address. Tell your teacher to expect an email from Decision Desk requesting him/her to submit your recommendation electronically.

Financial Assistance

If you would like to be considered for financial assistance from the Festival, you must complete the financial assistance section of the application (including required documentation) and submit it with your regular application.

Application Fee

Non-refundable application fee in U.S. dollars (includes $30 Decision Desk processing fee).
