Bowdoin International Music Festival Announces 2025 Season and Celebrates 10 Years of Artistic Leadership Under David and Phillip Ying

Brunswick, Maine — The Bowdoin International Music Festival is pleased to announce the 2025 season, June 30 – August 8, which will feature an exciting lineup of concerts, masterclasses, and community events, welcoming both distinguished and rising artists to Brunswick from across the globe. This summer also marks the 10th anniversary of David Ying and Phillip Ying’s artistic direction.

Since stepping into their leadership roles in 2015, the Ying brothers — both Grammy-winning artists and founding members of the renowned Ying Quartet — have elevated the Festival’s artistic profile, expanded its educational programs, and deepened its commitment to cultivating the next generation of classical musicians. Their vision has brought an extraordinary array of talent to Brunswick each summer, creating a dynamic environment where students, faculty, and audiences alike experience world-class music making.

“We are honored to celebrate ten years in this role,” said David Ying. “It has been a privilege to serve the mission of the Festival by creating the most collegial and respectful space for artist faculty, the most nurturing environment for students, the most inspirational venue for our listeners and supporters, and an enduring place to celebrate our life together as a community through music,” Phillip Ying added.

The season kicks off on Monday, June 30 with the Ying Quartet and composer-clarinetist Derek Bermel at Studzinski Recital Hall. This summer’s lineup will also include the Attacca, Jasper, Jupiter, and Takács Quartets, and audiences will be delighted by the return of the joint concert between the Ying and Jupiter Quartets midway through season. The Festival also welcomes distinguished artists such as Richard Goode, Lawrence Lesser, Simone Porter, Christopher Taylor, Orion Weiss, Amy Williams, and Zhou Long for performances, masterclasses, and talks.

The Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music, three days dedicated to new music by today’s innovative composers, will be headlined by Hub New Music, a group described as “contemporary chamber trailblazers” and a “prime mover of piping hot 21st century repertoire.” As part of their residency, Hub will perform new music written by the Festival’s composition students in a free and open reading.

The Festival also continues its popular Community Concert Series throughout the Midcoast and Southern Maine regions. These performances — presented in arts and community centers, libraries, museums, and breweries — provide a chance for families and the community at-large to build an interest in classical music.

The Young Artists Series, which showcases the Festival’s talented students in more than 20 lively concerts at Studzinski Recital Hall will run from July 3 through August 8. All are free and open to the public.

The Bowdoin International Music Festival is June 30 to August 8, 2025. Tickets are available now at bowdoinfestival.org or 207-373-1400.
