The first 90 minutes of tonight’s program features student compositions inspired by works of art at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. We have included gallery information with each piece, and we invite guests to visit the Museum to view the works.

The Festival’s composition program is led by composers-in-residence Derek Bermel and Andreia Pinto Correia.

The Ends of Artifice

This piece was inspired by: (1) Thornton Dial, Movie Star, 1994, charcoal, pastel and graphite on paper; (2) Edward Julius Detmold, Macaw, 1924, color etching and aquatint; and (3) Bernardo Castello, The Flagellation, pen and brown ink, brown wash over black chalk. These works are part of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art Collection; not currently on view.
